Bi‐allelic loss of FAM46C triggers tumor growth with concomitant activation of Akt signaling in multiple myeloma cellsAbstract Loss of heterozygosity or mutation of the family with sequence similarity 46, member C (FAM46C) gene on chromosome band 1p12 is associated with shorter overall survival of patients with multiple myeloma (MM). In this study, using human MM cell lines (KMS‐11, OCI‐My5, and ANBL‐6), we generated FAM46C‐/‐ cell clones and examined the effect of disruption of FAM46C on cell survival...

Melatonin is useful alternative for sedation in children undergoing auditory brainstem responses testing
Melatonin is useful alternative for sedation in children undergoing auditory brainstem responses testing: AbstractAuditory brainstem responses testing (ABRs) is frequently required to assess auditory function in children. It is done usually in outpatient fashion and requires deep sleep to avoid artefacts. Sedation method used for the test should allow a deep sleep while avoiding general anaesthesia that requires special monitoring, dedicated staff and operating room availability. For this purpose,...

Electroacupuncture Ameliorates Cerebral I/R-Induced Inflammation through DOR-BDNF/TrkB Pathway: The beneficial effects of electroacupuncture (EA) at Shuigou (GV26) and Neiguan (PC6) on poststroke rehabilitation are critically related to the activation of the delta-opioid receptor (DOR). The underlying anti-inflammatory mechanisms in DOR activation and EA-mediated neuroprotection in cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury were investigated in the current study. Cell proliferation and apoptosis...

Are Basal-Like and Non-Basal-Like Triple-Negative Breast Cancers Really Different?: Objective. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) accounts for 15–25% of breast cancers. It is increasingly recognized that TNBC is a motley disease. TNBC and basal-like (BL) subtype are different molecular classes of breast cancer with a high degree of overlap. However, a smaller fraction lacks the expression of basal markers in spite of being TNBC and is called non-basal-like (NBL). The aim of this study is to assess...

Genetic Pathway in the Pathogenesis of Therapy-Related Myeloid Neoplasms: A Literature Review
Genetic Pathway in the Pathogenesis of Therapy-Related Myeloid Neoplasms: A Literature Review: AbstractTherapy-related myeloid neoplasms are a life-threatening and often fatal complication, associated with poor prognosis outcomes and with high-risk unfavorable cytogenetic abnormalities including complex karyotype. They occur after the treatment of primary malignancies using chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy. Such therapy is not specific to cancer cells, and also damages the deoxyribonucleic acid...

Genomic and Transcriptomic Characterization of Sporadic Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma
Genomic and Transcriptomic Characterization of Sporadic Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma: Thyroid, Ahead of Print. AbstractBackground: Sporadic medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) is a relatively uncommon neuroendocrine malignancy and the molecular tumorigenesis of its sporadic type (sMTC) is only partially understood. In this study, we performed a study focusing on the genomic and transcriptomic characterization of sMTC.Methods: Twenty-nine sMTC patients were included. Whole-exome sequencing (WES) was...
